TCP and ping
Check servers that do not speak HTTP
Not everything has a health URL. A TCP monitor opens a connection to a host and port; a ping monitor sends ICMP ping and records the round-trip time.
Set it up
Two monitors for a mail server:

- TCP: the connection must open within the timeout.
- Ping: ICMP round-trip time from each region.
- IPv4 and IPv6 can be checked separately, so you see which one fails.
- Private and internal addresses are refused from public regions.
When it fails
The alert names the monitor, the error and the regions that could not connect.
Checks run from several regions and a failure is confirmed before anyone is alerted. Alerts go to email, Slack, Teams, Discord, Telegram, PagerDuty or a webhook.
